Tommy and his friend, Alex, loved playing together in the sandbox. One day, after a fun-filled afternoon of digging and building, Alex accidentally left his favourite toy digger behind.
Tommy’s eyes widened with excitement as he picked up the digger. “Yes! Now I can play with it for a while longer!” he thought to himself.
At first, Tommy was happy to have the digger all to himself. He imagined all the fun structures he could build with it. But as he looked at the digger, he started to feel a little guilty.
He remembered what his Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Thompson, had said: “We should always try to do what is right and kind, even when it’s hard.”
Tommy realised that keeping the digger without telling Alex was not kind. He thought about how Alex would feel if he lost his favourite toy.
So, Tommy made the decision to do the right thing. He took the digger home and called Alex to tell him the good news.
“Alex! Guess what? I found your digger in the sandbox!” Tommy exclaimed.
Alex was overjoyed. “Really?! Oh, thank you so much, Tommy! I was worried I’d lost it forever!”
Tommy smiled, feeling happy that he had made the right choice. “I’m just glad I could return it to you. You’re my friend, and I wouldn’t want to keep something that belongs to you.”
Alex’s mom thanked Tommy for his kindness, and Alex promised to return the favor someday.
As Tommy hung up the phone, he felt proud of himself for making a kind and honest choice. He knew that God was pleased with him too.
